You're probably wondering where Starsomething is

Sit tight, we're working on it. The last few weeks have been wierd for both me and Ian (for different reasons) and we haven't had time to check the futurometer.

Don't worry I'll be here for the following reasons
1. Great comic
2. My utter lack of having a life
3. It teaches you new words such as futurometer
4. I'm always bored before class

I agree, very good comic, lack of life- nothing to do in class. Just get back when you can

With certain author's dissappearing for months without a word, I'm just glad that this comic updates at all, and that the author's have the decency to tell the fans when it won't. Thanks for that, and missing an update is quite understandable expecially as the two of them have 2/3 comics going on at the same time.

The futurometer is /obviously/ the device that Ian and Webby use to record the future and post it in comic form for the world to see. Everyone knows that :P

10:25 PM
Anonymous said...

Don't worry about the delays, this is a webcomic worth waiting for. I recently purged about half my webcomic bookmarks to save on time, but this one made the cut, even though all the others that survived update at least three times a week.

Oh, and to figure out what a futurometer is, just look at the roots of the word itself. It's a "Future meter" - a device for measuring the future. It shouldn't be useful for seeing *what* happens in the future, just *how much future there is*. Thus, it is an effective device for determining when the end of the universe will occur. The authors probably just use it to figure out how quickly the crew is going to cause the end of the universe, and extrapolates how much further they've gotten towards that result each week. They probably have some other device for figuring out the fine details, perhaps a futuroscope or the prophecies of Nostradamus.

I think we can all see where this is going.

Starsomething won't update again for at least a year and a half... and then Ian and Mark will start talking about their newest project, that they'll unveil shortly.

If I wait for a year and a half, will you two post another 40 comics for us?

10:31 AM
Anonymous said...

Nah. RPG-World isn't updating, either. I figure that while it's vitality is still an open question, so is Starsomething's. If it ever officially dies, then so goes SS. If it ever comes back without Ian quickly bringing SS with it, well, then so goes SS. But as long as RPG-World is in a vague not-updating-but-may-resume-soon state, then so is Starsomething.

Webrunner's stuff is updating normally, so the issue is probably with Ian--RPGW isn't updating. But since he just recently said he'd be continuing with RPG world, we can probably trust it's not dead, just on hiatus for a while, so therefore this is too. I still wish it was updating, though. I imagine Webrunner is just as confused as we are.

Haha, You guys should really stop crying about nothing happening. It's kinda sad that people are putting a deadline on comics that Ian and Webby aren't technically getting paid for. They have a real life outside of SS. Things such as work are a whole lot more important than the comics. Can't you net nerds fing something else? -whips out a GBA game that she's beaten 17 times- Seriously, anything is better than whining.

First guy: Well, I first said not to worry about it, then I said still not to worry about it but line-droppage would be nice, then I asked if anyone had seen Webrunner around so we can ask him what's going on. I think all of those things are reasonable to at least ask, but no, I don't really care all that much why it's down, I was only curious. They'll get back to it when they can, and in the meantime, we can hang out here waiting if we don't have anything better to be doing.

Actually, it makes a ton of sense to post here a lot as long as we don't flame the guys, because if they check teh site and see a ton of entries in here they'll know that people still want StarSomething to return. If we leave well enough alone, they might return and find that the last comment was from a month ago or something and they might be discouraged.

So let's post, people, and get accounts so we can tell each other apart to make it more interesting!

Well, Ian just posted a new RPG-World comic. So either he's back from hiatus (YAY!) or he's just managed to get one up after working on it in dribbles of spare time over the past several weeks (EEK!). Which one it is will probably determine the fate for Starsomething.

I'd say that's why I feel tense, but actually I think it's that I'm subconsciously aware that I'm violating some cultural taboo of some sort.

-- The first pantless anonymous.

PS: I'm also of the opinion that continued posting here expresses interest in and support of the continuation of Starsomething -- very important to show that there's still a fanbase. Also very important not to demand new comics or even whine for updates (though wishing for them is okay).

It seems to me as if Ian basically had time to stuff the latest comic into the FTP and then run. I'm not talking about quality (that was actually one of the best RPGWorlds I've seen in a while), just the lack of a blog update to herald the sudden presence of a comic. Hm...

Unfortunately, the raging snowstorm currently sweeping through New England currently has forced me to return to pantsfulness. Thus I am now simply the Prince of Pants. Not to be confused with the Lord of the Pants. I would have been the King of No Pants, except that as we all know that title already belongs to Gabe...but anyway, this is getting annoying. It's not the lack of updates really, it's the lack of any communication at all. You'd think someone would have told the fans what the @#$% was going on.

8:03 PM
Saber in Blue said...

Well, the thing is, I agree that it is annoying, but it's probably out of their hands. They're both doing their own stuff plus this one, and honestly, Ian didn't update the RPGWorld blog. Since there was such a long gap since it last updated, there's no way that he wouldn't have updated the blog when the new comic went up unless he couldn't. Actually, what are the odds that he submitted the latest comic like soon after Christmas and post-dated it? Does Keenspot do auto-updates like Keenspace? If so, then he probably couldn't get to the computer or the Internet at all and was anticipating that back at Christmas.

3:24 PM

**moans** its jan. 24, all your other comics have updated, why isn't this one? is it dead, on hiatus for a year, or is the futurometer scrappped?

9:26 AM
Salkryn said...

I simply ask what a lot of us seem to be wondering, and I would certainly like a response: Where is Starsomething, why has their been no new blog to inform us of why the comic hasn't been updated, and for that matter why has their been absolutely no communication to the fans? I'm not trying to be rude, but I think that we deserve, as fans, at the very least some information. I'll accept a hiatus or the end of the comic, but the lack of contact is getting on my nerves.

4:45 PM

The working relationship here seems to be that Webrunner types a script and sends it to Ian, who then draws up the comic and puts it up. So I'd guess that Ian is usually the one who logs into Keenspace Gear and hits "Full Update". I would also guess that both of them have administrative access to the site anyway. In any event, Both of them can update the blog, and Webrunner said that he would do so when he managed to touch base with Ian.

As for guest comics...heck, I've got a webcomic, I could put out a guest comic if Webs likes the idea.

What I figure we should do is ammuse ourselves to past the time. Sure, the current theory SAYS that Ian is overworked/offline/something else boring. But we're inventive people, right? Can't we come up with something much more entertaining and/or implausible?

And lowering our expectations to a comic sometime next year yields a nice campaign slogan. WE NEED OUR FIX IN 2006!

I love RPGWorld and keep waiting for more from it, as well as Starsomething, but I know that sometimes things happen and to pass the time until a new update comes, maybe you could try something like nuklearpower.com or spells&whistles for some filler entertainment.

Just a suggestion till this comes back from the unannounced hiatus.

You aren't losing any money or health or social relationships by this comic not being updated. This is a free comic, for all ages too. Keep that in mind when you formulate your words into sentences. You should have enough time to think about it while your typing it.

you know you should write your own comic that way we can bitch at you when ever you dont update. come on give Ian and webrunner a break just think about all the stuff they have to deal with. they are both in collage which is a huge workload right there then they have to worry about a job, their friends and relationships. After everything else is under control they will simply need some time to them selves. after that THEN they can work on the comics. if they
put the comic first then they would both end up living in thier moms basements till they are 40 and thats if they dont fuck things up with their parents too by putting a comic first. So i would officaly like to tell anyone who is thinking of writing a complaint such as the one i quoted above, dont. they dont need to anything so dont bitch at them.

They have taken control of RPG World (I know it looks like Ian's work, but they just want us to think that untill it deteriorates into oblivion!!!), and it is only Webrunner's heroic efforts that are stopping them from stealing Starsomething and destroying that too!!!

i find myself thinking to myself, "Great googly moogly!" as i scan through the many comments left over the last several months since last this comic was updated. I am, perhaps fortunate as I stumbled across Star Something a mere two days ago. The drama of your comments is nearly as entertaining as the comic itself. One pantless anonymous after another proclaiming his/her love for the comic and expressing their desire to remain pantless until it is updated... tempered by the soothing voice of the gentle messiah like hero calming the masses as they scream for blood and type various obscenities. ahem... ok... perhaps that was a bit over dramatic... maybe my ex was right. *ponders* Ah well; it's April 30th 2005. For all intents and purposes this comic is dead... but death is just another adventure! ok... that was stupid. hmmm... my incessant rambling sense is tingling...

Ian? Webby? I know that you've both either seen the movie or will soon, right? So here's a low-down trick. I'm not going to demand that you start StarSomething back up or anything. But instead, start thinking, if I were going to have the StarSomething characters parody Ep3 somehow.... probably in a million somehows... how would I do it? Just think about it. Play around with dialogue and pictures in your head.

And then don't draw it. I dare you not to.

This is the one and only time I'll post to this long line of commentaries....hopefully....

I stand by alot of the remarks made in these posts....remarks from BOTH sides (except those really vulgar, disrespectful ones)....so here is my own set of remarks to fall somewhere in the middle of all this (or at the end of the current posts, whichever comes first)

I've followed RPG World much more than I have Adventurers, so I'll state this keeping Ian in mind....If you have ever taken a look at his more personal web space http://blackdotstudios.com/ , you would surely see the "Contact&Resume" section on the site....now this resume mentions "August 2000 - present
- Write and produce ongoing web comic (www.rpgworldcomic.com)
- Maintain consistent website updating schedule of 3 per week" ....now it isn't a good thing to have false information on your professional resume....so I do hope the one he actually hands people does not include this....on the other hand, it also shows "Junior Animator and Assistant, DMA Animation (New York, NY)
December 2004 - present;
May 2004 - August 2004
- Animate sequences for use on client projects and in-house reels
- Inbetween more complicated sequences done by lead animators
- Create and animate Flash characters for company website (www.dma-animation.com)" ....which could be a little insight as to how busy Ian REALLY is....it's not just college, he uses his skills PROFESSIONALLY....now once again, back the the other side....he HAS created a HUGE fan base....now alot of these people could help in the development of his career depending on what area he chooses to go into....with that large of a fan base already, man, i would hate to disappoint all those people and lost their support....people may begin to associate his work with "LONG DELAYS" or "CONSTANT HIATUS" or such....he surely doesn't want that, but that can happen even WITH a hobby/free entertainment based web-comic....on the other hand, for his EMPLOYERS, it will show that he has his priorities straight....that when sacrifices must be made, he will make the right choice....this comic, nor RPG World should EVER come before the life, family, and careers of either of it's creators....so think more logically people....think beyond this....this comic may NEVER return....think about what your priorities are....

well the situation is looking quite bleak to be frank. Ian has probably forgotten or purposely and silently abandoned this site. WebRunner seems to maintain a facade of interest but claims to be waiting for Ian when pressed. As far as i have been able to determine that while webrunner can makes many of the major changes/ updates it's Ian who will actually refresh this site and with him gone and since he hasn't updated RPGWorld for a while (which he seems to be bringing to an over quick, slightly unbelivable end indicating a desire to be done with his comics) there's little chance that this will be updated until RPGWorld draws to a close and even then will probably be updated with a discontinuation notice. Still keep in mind that SOMEONE wants to bring this back... the hosting for this site is almost assuredly not free... so keep the faith thought the odds against our goal loom large we may yet overcome SO Keep The Faith we may at least see a rushed ending to this.

But before your six-month hiatus, did you leave notice that you were going on hiatus? We didn't get any warning that Starsomething wasn't going to be back any day now...

9:33 PM
Anonymous said...

Heh.... His leave is understandable, as well as forgivable, considering all the stuff that's going on in his life.

But it's still gotten to where you really can't defend Ian any more. I mean--unless he's dead--there's no excuse for him to leave us hanging so long without so much as a news post. Even RPGWorld has gone an eternity without an update, and his last post includes an angry messsage to the people who want to see him update more often.

Fwah, he has a huge fanbase, but he really wishes he doesn't. It's clear he isn't up to dealing with it, anyway.

6:22 PM
Anonymous said...

This is Saber. As a matter of fact, I didn't leave notice, but the fact is that my comic had only been going for a few weeks. I had eight pages up, so I really didn't think there was a need to leave notice. And on the subject of people e-mailing webcomickers tellign them to get with the program, I've got very mixed feelings about it. I think that the appropriateness of such an e-mail is largely dependent on wroding and circumstances. Hawk of Applegeeks, last December, founded Webcomic Appreciation Day upon getting fed up with so many nasty e-mails about updates. This was a perfectly justified response, as AG updates very regularly. When Hawk took a week off for personal reasons a bout a month or so ago and he got hit with hatemail about it, that was plain wrong. However, Tim Buckley of CAD's response to Webcomic Appreciation Day was interesting. He said that readers had every right to e-mail him asking for updates, becuase CAD is his only job. An enviable position to be in, no doubt, and also one with some responsibility that goes along with it. The point is rather moot since CAD almost never ever misses an update, and updates through holidays and so forth. Now, RPGWorld is a bit of an odditiy in this continuum. It is one of the longest-running webcomics I have ever seen. The sheer volume of pages in it is almost unmatched. It's a Keenspot comic, so hosting is free. It is not the sole sustaining job of its author, and Ian did declare a semi-hiatus from it, saying that it was hard to make time for it and he'd update when he could. So in my opinion, there's no love lost there. Especially since he calls RPGWorld his hobby, not his job. I suppose one can't fault a guy for defining a level of commitment and then sticking to that level of commitment. However, posting a hurried blog entry on a side comic and then running away for months on end is not good form for a webcomicker, in my opinion. What I can't understand is why RPGWorld is still on Keenspot. Even if it's a great comic, it's not updating. I don't get why they'd keep it on.

ok, 1stly Ian was not overreacting at all with thatlast blog message. Some people are real fuckin assholes about expecting something from him that he cant really give on a weekly basis anymore. He has every excuse for not updating on schedule, and I hate it when people act like they know everything about webcomix and act like they can critique someone for deciding to have a life that isnt based around makin webcomics. Seriously, get off his case. I myself am writing a comic book and it takes time, concentration and patience you cant really expect from someone on a schedule. Ian does quality COLOR work, and thus you should not be rushing him. Secondly, I am still not willing to beleive that this comic is dead. They put alot of work into reviving it, and its still on the "at the moment" link on the home page of adventurers. Even Webrunner is not that oblivious. This place is not dead until one of the creators comes and says "I cant do this anymore, starsomething is dead." until then, I consider this place on haitus.

So Ian officially (again, I guess?) put RPG World on indefinite hiatus. Since this was a joint project between him and webby, this may bite the dust as well.

Don't think webby can do this comic alone, since he's got a full plate already, with his ADV!, AFH, CMC, and pseudo ADV!II, and other projects that gives the gist he can't do this right now.

May the universe be saved by Tom in the future.

webomic artists, except for Penny Arcade because they are the greatest EVER, are lazy bastards. This comic will never come back. But guess what? They get an advertising buck each time you see that stupid banner at the top. Don't you love free enterprise? Stalin for President!"

Last I checked, Penny Arcade didn't update everyday, like Dominic Deegan, or every weekday, like Real Life.

Last I checked Penny Arcade didn't make me laugh. Doesn't mean it's not good; I'm just saying "greatest ever" is pushing it a little.

Also, as this is a free KeenSPACE (now ComicGenesis) site, the cartoonists aren't receiving any ad revenues. Bluell & the Crosby family will collect any profits from the site's pageviews, & those rates are nowhere near a dollar a pop, no matter how often we check in vain for a new strip.

Comments have been made on ADV requesting another blog-post, but no response...And Penny Arcade are plenty good, but there are loads of other webcomics that update really reliably--try the aforementioned Dominic Deegan, or Something Positive, or El Goonish Shive...

Seeing as how Ian's life seems to have caught up to him, with even RPG world put on hold, I doubt this comic will be back.

In any case, it was nice while it lasted.

Well Ian's gone, probably for good, Webrunner won't do anything without Ian. RPGWorld didn't even get a proper conclusion and the comments are getting fewer and farther between sadly all great things must come to an end and i appears that this one is slowl shutting down after it's glourious but tragically brief rebirth

signing off probably for the last time

Wow, it has officially been a year and a day since the comic's been updated.

Se la vie.

Ah well, i'm sure if there's ever an update we'll see a post on it on either rpg world or adventurers, but still, i'd like to see something happen.

I mean, C'MON! Pony's in the new CMC expansion...

First allow me to say that Webby is incredible. For a brief time he was working on three comics and his CMC all at the same time, while keeping up with his normal life. He still keeps up with ADV and AFH and CMC, which is amazing, we can't expect him to tackle Starsomething on his own as well.

Webrunner, I believe I speak on behalf of most of us when I say this:
We are your fans. We appreciate everything you're doing to entertain us. We are impressed with what you are capable of. Keep it up.

I, too, have nothing but utmost respect for Webrunner and Ian. They are quite simply the best at what they do. Unfortunatly, what they do also includes long, unpronounced hiatuses. Its been a year, and SS is still the "current link" on Adventurers. I doubt he can update that much without seeing that link and thinking to himself "whatever happened to SS?. Im certainly not one to judge, but No matter how much I love both of their work, there is no excuse for this. They havent even MENTIONED this website for a YEAR. That kinda sorta pisses me off. No updates on RPGW? I can handle it, cuz Ians still updating his blogs and he makes sure we know its not dead, just hybernating, and that he WILL finish it. This site has no such honor, and its annoying. They made such a big deal of bringing it back, and then only made like five comics before slipping back into hiatus. Like I said, the least they could do is tell us its dead.

Damn I say, I've just got around to reading this comic, and then when I've realised how long it been since it's been updated I became kinda sad.
I mean, it's a great idea with cool characters and nice way of drawing, yet it has'nt been updated in more then a year now. Then I started to read this I realised another thing. The comic has a trusted group of fans even thought it were kinda young. I'm sorry for you all for waiting so long and for the comic to be delaying further with it's updating. Yet now, I'm going to do the same as you, I'll watch in from time to time, until it's either taken down or get's updated.
